Pumpkin in a Pumpkin Patch

Say hi to Pumpkin! Pumpkin is our beloved Toy Poodle (we were told she is a toy but we believe her to be a Teacup), who’s been delighting our lives for the past 2 years. We adopted her in November of 2019 from the Big Dog Rescue Ranch in Okeechobee, FL, in our opinion, one of the best rescue centers in the country, and I’ll tell you why later on in this post.

In this post, pumpkin is wearing the Cymiler Dog Harness, which we found very practical for traveling and Pumpkin feels really comfortable wearing.

Pumpkin is the smartest do we’ve ever had! She is also extremely sweet and playful. Pumpkin is not the most outgoing towards people but that’s probably because of her past interactions with humans; you will understand when you read her story and how she came to the US. Besides the staple Milk Bones Mini Treats.

After about a month or so that Pumpkin was with us, we were told by our Veterinarian in Miami (who is also a very good friend and a fantastic veterinarian), that we should feed Pumpkin only dry food. Dogs are not used to eating human’s food and can’t process it well. For the dry food, we went with a brand that was recommended by our daughter, the Hill’s Science Diet Adult Perfect Weight Small & Mini Chicken Recipe Dry Dog Food. A great product which has never caused her any problems.

Because dry food is very low on nutrients, minerals and vitamins, the vet. recommended we add supplements to Pumpkin’s food, something that contains Omega-3 and Cosamin (for healthy bones). For a while he supplied us the product but after a while we started buying the Zesty Paw Salmon Supplement. Pumpkin’s coat has always been nice and soft, full and overall very healthy.

For her breath, we give Pumpkin one of the Greenies Original Teenie Natural Dental Dog Treats every morning and it seems to work. When we were abroad and tried other brands her breath was much worse. For treats, we give her the Milk-Bone Flavor Snacks Dog Treats, also recommended by our veterinarian. Her other favorite treats are all natural blueberries and strawberries! I was told by a friend dog owner about blueberries instead of dry food and other packaged foods; after further research, I was really happy to see that they are actually really good for her! Here is a really good article with video that tells you why and how to feed blueberries to your pup.
